Quickie halftime post: best city for a crime novel?

New York versus Indianapolis

New York has been done to death in everything. The rust belt, on the other hand, would be a great setting. Picture Dennis Lehane’s Boston with even more people down on their luck, plus a lot of meth. Crime fiction gold.

Winner: Indianapolis

New Orleans versus Minnesota

With its rich history, ancient (by American standards) architecture, Hurricane Katrina, and high crime rate, New Orleans is a terrific location for a crime novel or movie. I’m surprised it isn’t used more.

Minneapolis is just sterile, despite my love of Prince, the Replacements, and Hüsker Dü. Plus if the victim was wearing green and gold and had a stab wound in his back, everyone would know who the killer was right out of the gate.

Winner: New Orleans.

Geaux Saints!
