A little while back I ran a review of Wallace Stroby’s Cold Shot to the Heart. Now, I’m giving away an advance reader copy to one lucky soul. All you need to do to enter is send me an e-mail (you can find my address under Contact Me in the right sidebar) with the subject “Cold Shot giveaway.”
I will be out of town next weekend, so I will accept entries for a week and a half or so (maybe a bit longer) before holding a random drawing, then contact the winner by e-mail.

As far as references, there is one major Stark homage in Cold Shot, specifically an exchange of dialogue. So far, no one’s spotted it, so I’m not going to give it away. I went back and forth on whether to include it, then decided if I was ever going to do it, that was the place, because it fit perfectly. So that was my tribute – or theft. Depends how you look at it, I guess.
The contest is to answer this:
What is the reference to a Richard Stark novel in Cold Shot to the Heart, and what novel does it reference?
Here’s the thing–I don’t even know the answer to this. When I get your guess, I’ll do some research and confirm with Wallace.
I’ve got a special prize for the winner of this contest–a signed, first edition of Stroby’s debut novel (and first in the Harry Rane series), The Barbed-Wire Kiss.
I know this one could take quite awhile, so the contest will run until we have a winner or until I give up and decide to use the book for another contest. But I know one of you out there can do this. I believe!
